Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd Grade

This is an old classic book that is fun to read. The monsters have all kinds of character and they are fun to draw. After watching the video, draw your favorite monster. Start your drawing using basic shapes like an oval, circle or a rectangle. Then, begin with the head. What does his eyes look like? Does he have a big mouth? Next, draw the arms and legs. Does his feet have claws instead of toes? Does he have horns maybe? What about fur or fish scales for his skin? Start your drawing using a pencil. When you are finished, color using what ever you have at home.

3rd, 4th and 5th Grade

This is our last week of distance learning and I would like to give you a choice of three different assignments. They are; Drawing a Chameleon, Op Art and Creating a Flip Book. All three are very different from each other. Which ever assignment you choose have fun with it!

Some of you have already done an Op Art drawing. This one is a little different than the one you did. This is just another example of Op Art. Either follow the directions on this example below or make your own design similar to the one you did a couple of weeks ago.

How to create a "Flip Book"

This project is different than any art project you may have done. It is a form of animation that years ago cartoons were designed using this method.

Watch all three videos to get the idea of how to make a flip book. Remember to follow directions from the first video when cutting your paper and assembling your book.

If you have note cards and a clip to hold them together, that will work as well. Sticky note pads can be used to but they need to be stapled to hold them together.

Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd Grade Assignment

If your kindergarten child would rather do a different assignment, follow the directions to draw a unicorn below.

Drawing Mandalas

Before spring break I had all of you start a mandala project. Unfortunately we were unable to finish them. However, we can try another approach to making mandalas by watching the two videos. As you will see there are many different ways to draw a mandala. Give it a try! It is best if you do not use lined paper. Print paper works better or if you have drawing paper, even better.

After watching both videos, choose one video and follow the step by step directions to draw your mandala.

Use a pen to trace your lines. Add color if you would like.

Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd Grade

Dinosaur Drawing

This week you will learn how to draw two Dinosaurs. I have given you the step by step directions in the diagrams below to draw two different dinosaurs.

On a piece of paper draw one dinosaur on each side of the paper and color the background. What are your dinosaurs's doing? Is it a stormy day or a sunny day? Do they want to eat leafs off of trees or take a drink of water out of a pond? This is your story to tell...

Color your picture when you are done.

How to draw a 3-D building

This drawing will teach you how to draw a building that looks like it is going back in space which is what we call 3 dimensional. Look at the instructions carefully to see the progression of this drawing.

You will need a pencil, eraser, ruler, marker and color such as crayons, markers or colored pencils to finish your drawing.

How to draw 3-D building

Before you begin to color your buildings, think about what kind of store front you would like to have. Make signs above windows or doors that might say "Bakery", Toy Store" or what ever your favorite store you like to go to when you go to the city.

Parts-of-House Drawing

Folded Paper House

Click on the instructions box and you will find directions that will show you how to fold your paper for your house.

This will be a fun drawing to do after the perspective drawings we did before spring break. Instead of drawing a city with many buildings, you can focus on one building and draw the detail of a house. The paper size to use can be no smaller than 8 1/2 x 11" which is the size of printing paper. It is better if you have larger paper than that. This drawing definitely needs color, preferably colored pencil. Trace your pencil lines with a thin lined marker when you are finished. Be creative! This could be your dream house.

Laura Birch Cats.jpg
IMG_4060_edited.jpg

Last week some of you learned about using lines to make zentangle designs. This week you will be learning about an artist by the name of Laurel Burch. She was an artist from California who was known for her colorful cat paintings. She was also a business women who made and sold her own jewelry. She was making designs in her artwork before zentangle designs were popular.

Please click on the power point of Laurel Burch paintings so you will be able to see her beautiful art work. Use her ideas for inspiration when you draw your own cat.

Look at the step by step diagram of drawing a cat. Use the instructions if you wish or use part of it and draw several cats. Most importantly, begin your drawing with a pencil and eraser. When finished, trace with a pen. Use what ever color you have at your home to finish. I used colored pencil in the example on the diagram.

You may use colored pencils, water color or crayons. Markers don't work as well because you cannot blend the colors very well.

Frog.jpg

          Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd and 3nd Grade

This week you are going to draw a frog. The step by step directions below will guide you so that your frog will be large on your paper. When you are done drawing it with pencil, use a marker or sharpie to trace your lines. You can also use a black crayon to trace your lines. Color your frog, the back ground and add what ever you think your frog would like to have next to him or her.

I know frogs like to eat bugs!

Please don't forget to write your full name and teachers name on your drawing.

4th and 5th Grade Op Art

This week you will be doing an Op Art drawing. You will need a pencil, eraser and colored pencils. Markers won't work as well as colored pencil because you cannot shade with them. If you don't have colored pencil, trace your pencil lines with a ink pen to make your lines pop.

Follow the step by step instructions on the diagram.

Before spring break several classes had started a giraffe drawing and unfortunately were unable to finish. The kids loved the giraffe so much I decided we would attempt drawing him again only with pencil, sharpie and crayons or colored pencils. Begin the drawing with a pencil so if you need to erase you can. Use a marker to trace your pencil lines when done with your drawing. Color your giraffe after tracing your lines.

When finished please put name and teachers name on drawing before emailing it me.

This weeks assignment is a step by step drawing of a zentangled landscape. Zentangling is doodling using line, combinations of shapes and simple curves to create patterns. The diagram below will show you how to draw the landscape. When you are finished drawing it with pencil, use a sharpie or black marker to trace your lines. Then you can color it how ever you wish. Before you start your drawing, watch the you tube videos below to learn more about zentangle doodling.
When finished put your name and teachers name on your picture before you email it to me.
